Volunteers from Devon Contract Waste (DCW) helped create a terrifying experience for visitors at Dartmoor Zoo’s Night of the Dead – Zombie Survival Challenge throughout October by taking on the role of zombies for the evenings.
The volunteers donated their time to support the zoo’s popular Halloween event, transforming themselves into members of the undead through their own costumes and make-up. Adding a unique twist to their appearances, the team incorporated elements of their recognisable DCW uniforms into their zombie outfits.
Night of the Dead – Zombie Survival Challenge invites visitors to navigate the grounds of Dartmoor Zoo, completing tasks and avoiding ‘infected’ as they attempt to reach safety in a post-apocalyptic survival experience. The event forms part of Dartmoor Zoo’s wider programme of seasonal activities, helping to attract visitors and generate much needed income to support the zoo’s charitable work.
As a long-standing customer of DCW, Dartmoor Zoo plays an important role in the local community through its conservation, education and animal welfare work. By volunteering at Night of the Dead, DCW colleagues supported the zoo beyond the waste and recycling services they provide, helping to create a memorable experience for visitors.
Olivia Crisp, Partnership and Community Engagement Manager for DCW, said:
“We’re always looking for opportunities to support organisations in our local community, and when Dartmoor Zoo asked for volunteers to help bring their Halloween event to life, our team didn’t hesitate to get involved. The volunteers fully embraced the challenge, and it’s a fantastic example of colleagues giving their time to support a valued local attraction.”
Amber Edgecombe, Events Manager at Dartmoor Zoo said:
“Night of the Dead has become a popular fixture in our events calendar, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of volunteers. We’re grateful to the DCW team for getting involved and helping us create an immersive experience for our visitors.”
